The short answer

I put this guide together for buyers who want golf to be part of daily life. It groups 39 courses by city and lists who can play, holes and par, designer and opening year, course style, a price tier, and who each course suits. If you're comparing 55+ communities, golf access and cost are often the deciding factor — and they differ a lot from one community to the next.

Golf in the communities I serve

Compare these communities side by side

Before you buy near a golf course

  1. 1Confirm the age restriction on any 55+ community and whether it applies to all occupants or one owner.
  2. 2Get current resident golf package prices (RCSCW, Sun City Grand, PebbleCreek, Westbrook Village, Copper Canyon) in writing — they change every year.
  3. 3For private clubs (Briarwood, Blackstone, Sterling Grove), ask about the initiation fee, monthly dues, food-and-beverage minimums, and whether membership transfers with the home.
  4. 4Play the course in the season you'll use it most. Summer conditions and October overseeding closures are very different from peak season.
  5. 5Ask about tee-time access for residents versus the public during January–April, when courses are busiest.

Golf questions I hear often

How many golf courses are in the West Valley?

My guide covers 39 courses across six cities: Goodyear (6), Litchfield Park (4), Buckeye (4), Surprise (9), Sun City West (10) and Peoria (6).

Which West Valley 55+ community is the best golf value?

For most 55+ buyers, Sun City West. The Recreation Centers of Sun City West run eight courses on one resident play package, and annual and punch-card packages price out to some of the lowest per-round costs in Arizona. Play is tied to a resident rec card.

Can non-residents play golf in 55+ communities?

Often, yes. Many courses inside 55+ communities — like Trilogy at Vistancia, Copper Canyon at Sun City Festival, and PebbleCreek — sell some public tee times. Residents usually get priority, especially January through April.

When do West Valley golf courses close for overseeding?

Most courses close for 2–4 weeks in October to seed winter rye, then run cart-path-only for several more weeks. Some budget courses skip overseeding and go dormant in winter. Ask each course for its dates.

Course details are drawn from public directories and course websites as of September 2026. Prices are approximate peak-season estimates. Verify with each course before making a housing decision.
